Poker is Fun Again!

For all of you microstakes online players out there who are looking to build your bankroll, I have a strong recommendation – learn how to play microstakes HORSE.

There are usually 2 or 3 .25/.50 games going on Full Tilt, and not only are they really fun, but they are ridiculously easy to beat.  I am not a good HORSE player at all – I barely know the rules for some of the games and have easily read less than 1000 words of strategy on Razz, O8, Stud, and Stud8, but as long as you research starting hand requirements and are familiar with basic poker concepts, you should be a winner in this game.

It is nice to get a change from the intensity of NLHE and learning new games can never hurt.  If I were a microstakes player, I would definitely use these games to build up my bankroll and have fun.  Since nobody knows what the hell they are doing, players are also pretty nice for the most part and way nicer than holdem players.

I don’t imaging I could play .25/.50 limit…. but I sometime play low limit ($10) HORSE sit n go’s on stars and have fould the games to be incredibly weak. It is not uncommon for people to raise in RAZZ with a starting hand of 27Q. They just have no idea.

All you need to do is read each section in SuperSystem2 and play tight and you have a huge edge.

Nice post, I think I also read somewhere that good players were reporting making something like 220% their normal BB/100 playing HORSE compared to hold ‘em.

Unlike most players, I actually like stud games so I’ll give this a try. The only liability is that I have literally NO IDEA how to play Omaha/8, I don’t even know what a good starting hand would be. Time to read up.

Jeff Hwangs’ book Pot-Limit Omaha book has a chapter on 8 or better that is fantastic. Worth the price of the book alone.
