Where has all the money gone?
I am trying to work my way bankroll back into shape, grinding my way back up, hopefully to remain as disciplined as I am right now while building it. I hate this part of poker, the refusal to re-buy, and the grind back up. It’s not the first time but I hope the last. I did reach a record low of .82 cents and a $26 token on Full Tilt (do not ask me how). I played a 90 man knockout with the token and had 3 knockouts before bubbling the final table, which seems to be the story of my poker life right now. Since I won the token for $8.00 I feel that it was profitable. I have had some success and failures but have gone up to $26.
I have read a lot of posts and resolutions about doing the same thing I am doing, getting the bankroll back to a healthy state. So who has all our money? Did we all play the wrong games, or over our bankroll? I have a theory that we all play goofy when we have money, do not have money, feel comfortable, feel stressed due to low bankroll, you choose. The only difference is the year has ended and we notice these kinds of things.
After reading “Oops, I won too Much Money” and listening to Tom Schneider’s Podcast, I decided to follow his advice and track all poker I play on a spread sheet. I started on Saturday 12/29/07. According to Pokerstars I have played over 1700 sit n go’s and have averaged $1 profit per game at an average buy in of about $5. So I check my Full Tilt games since Saturday I played 16 games and guess what I have won $16.60 (it’s a Christmas Miracle). I also have not average a $5 buy in I have averaged $2 or $3 per buy in, so I am actually ahead of pace.
So the question is this…. Why did you go broke, and did you go more broke this time, or did you just notice it more due to the time of year? If you did go more broke do you know why? Did you play to big, games you are not good at and refuse stop when you took a pounding or did you just get plain greedy?
I did go more broke, because I played cash games that I did not have the bankroll for and lost and played to big a buy in tourneys without cashing. So I go back to what has made me successful and play with in myself. If I continue the same rations I should be playing $50 buy in SNG’s and averaging $10 per game right?
Life Lesson: If you do not know how or why something happened to you, how can you prevent it from happening to you again?
