Vegas Summer in the Cards
Super busy week for your short-stacked friend. Spent the better part of it in windy San Francisco, where I managed not only to play a little live poker but also blogged all week (thanks to a sweet wireless connection in the hotel). Got involved a bit in some interesting PPA-related dialogue as well (see below). The big news, though, was that I found out I am heading to Vegas for the 2008 WSOP to help out with the PokerNews coverage. Will be there for pretty much the whole sucker.
More details on that to come. Meanwhile, here’s what all happened at Hard-Boiled Poker this week:
Way back on Monday I posted something about that new agreement between Full Tilt Poker and the CardRunners pros. You might’ve heard about this one. Full Tilt signed on the half-dozen or so CardRunners guys, then told them they’d be able to create temporary “alternate” accounts for their instructional vids. Created a bit of an uproar on Two Plus Two & elsewhere, and now Full Tilt appears to be rethinking exactly how the arrangement will be handed.
After a bit of junior detective work, I ended up pointing out that with the agreement “Full Tilt Poker Apparently Plans To Violate One of the Kahnawake Gaming Commission’s ‘Regulations Concerning Interactive Gaming.’” (As I say, Full Tilt may have since come up with an alternative that keeps ‘em from violating one of their only regulatory body’s rules.)
On Tuesday I put up a quickie telling everyone I was “Going to California.” Then on Wednesday I was able to report on playing some “Live Poker: Oaks Card Club, Emeryville, CA.” Don’t get too excited. I only played a couple of hours of the lowest limit Hold ‘em a person can play. But I had fun during my brief visit to a genuinely historic poker place.
If you’re a member of the Poker Players Alliance, you should know that the PPA actually revised its mission statement this week. No shinola. Here’s the skinny: “One (Ex-)Member Inspires PPA to Alter Its Mission Statement.” Posted a follow-up of sorts on Friday, titled “PPA Can Do Better,” which elicited some thoughtful comments from a few PPA State Directors.
I also wrote on Friday about my meet-up with Tim Peters, book reviewer for CardPlayer magazine (and very cool guy). Post was titled “Past, Present, and Future.” Had gotten to know Tim a bit via the intertubes previously, so it was nice finally to get together. Might well get to see Tim again this summer in Vegas.
And maybe some of the rest of youse, too!
