Starting at the bottom

Hello All,

Not sure how many dedicated Pokersifters are left, but sometimes its worth checking back in. For those that need an update and back ground – here it is….

I’ve been a poker addict for 4 or so years, playing back in my high school days regularly. I’ve got a bad habit of getting addicted to something, buying books, reading on line, video’s until I feel I’ve conquered something. You should see my golf library – a 400 page book on putting…lol. Anyways, after much reading, playing, depositing etc. I ran my bankroll to a couple of hundred, I think $350.00 was my highest. Couple of tournaments I went fairly deep, final tabled one – out in 9th place. My sharkscope says 800 or so games, ROI -2% down 150 bucks. So I take that as a slight even money player, win a few – lose a lot. I’ve tried hard to improve, joined PXF and worked hard on my SNG game. At one point, my room mate and I were both at 10$ – he currently is a 10$ SNG player and a roll of 1050$ and doing well. We love to talk poker. Me – well – I ran that $350 roll down and out – then got a $50.00 bank roll from Pokerstrategy.com ( I highly recommend joining) and took that down to .25c. That’s right – January 1st – PS bankroll .25c.

Well, I made a determined bid to end my poker career, takingĀ a $50.00 stake and refusing to win for a few weeks. The results at the old cash game were in line with previous results, straight losing. So after much work, and little progress, I dropped down to the lowest level I could, .10c tournaments. When it was almost over – and I was doner then done – guess what happened. I won with my last .25c a 90 man turbo – and it was back in business. Since then I’ve played just about every SNG under the sun, prefer the 18 man 1.75 turbo’s but also 1 table and Double or Nothings. Those Double or Nothings went well for a while – I think I rattled off like six straight wins, before losing one. Good for the bank roll.

I put a real effort into learning Bubble Play. Downloaded an ICM trainer, ICM lecture and finally spent $100.00 on Sitngo wizard. Trying hard to become a strong BUBBLER. On top of that – I downloaded Holdem Manager – and started to analyze my game. WHY?

Why in god’s green earth would a 1$ SNG player invest so much time and effort in a stupid card game – we’ll – I need to figure it out – and won’t stop till I do. Why does Ivey, Negreneau, Durrr etc, have a consistent ability to win, and yet others fail miserably. Why does SHEETS win at a 20% ROI on his $500.00 SNG’s?

Is it possible to become that good – with limited insincts. Is it possible when you’ve basically been a break even player for 3 years. I think it is. I think its very doable. And I hope to do it.

While work, family and other priorities have taken time away from my time availability – I still try to improve – to get better – and hopefully take the journey to being a championship MTT player.

The goal is there – the path is set. The account is at a blistering $40.00. The wife even picked up Harrington and is threatening to learn how to play….we’ll see.

We’re living very similar poker lives right now… and I also believe it’s doable that’s what keeps me going. Just returned to live play after 2 months off (due to a horrible losing streak).. Friday night.. down $85 for the session.
Wish it was a positive night but I’m not giving up.

Hang in there Boom. I went from taking shots at $100nl all the way back down to $10nl. I doubled down on coaching by joining Deucescracked to go with my Stoxpoker account. I also got some help from a friend who has moved up to $200nl. If you have someone you can talk poker with it can make a world of difference. I am now playing a mix of $25 and $50nl now and working my way back up the ladder. Good luck Boom, good luck Kat, and good luck to everyone else.
