PokerSift Poker League

Hi All,

PokerKat left a comment in my previous Chimps PLO post about starting a tournament series likes AIPS and CHIMPS. I have thought about this too and think this would be an awesome idea. Not sure how to start one of these but this would be a lot of fun and we all could help each other out with certain games like in my case PLO. Seems like FTP may be the best choice but I’m open to PokerStars also. Also in case you haven’t heard, it sounds like Adam and Mike from the 2+2 pokercast are going to be starting up a weekly free roll for listeners over on PokerStars. It will be password protected so listen to there podcasts to get the password. Hopefully this will be starting in a few weeks.

Please respond with your comments regarding this idea. I think we can turn this site into something special and something more than just blogging…I guess that is up to Adam or whoever owns this site but I would love to turn this into a poker portal and have other types of content other then just blogging. Of course this requires a lot of time and money but I think over time we can do this if the commitment is there.

It’s pretty easy to start tournaments on Full Tilt, sounds like it could be fun:

To set up a private tournament, simply send an e-mail to privatetournaments@fulltiltpoker.com with all of the following information regarding the tournament you want set up:

Tournament Name:

Tournament Date:

Tournament Time:

Game to be Played:

Buy-In and Entry Fee:

Password:

Expected Turnout:

That’s everything, but here are a few other things to be sure to watch for:

The tournament’s name can not exceed 25 characters.

The time you choose is clear (If you want a tournament at 4 PM, don’t just write 4:00, write 16:00 SERVER TIME). All unlabeled time zones are interpreted as SERVER TIME, which is US ET.

The entry fee must be at least 10% of the buy-in.

The password must be all lower case letters without spaces.

If you want a tournament with something other than a nine player minimum, make that clear in your e-mail.

I think this would be cool. I’d prefer Stars and a mix of games.

I’ve only played in one league and it was fun, but I think the main attraction to most people is in the overlay.

Thanks guys for the info and opinons. If I had a preference I’d say stars but most of the leagues I see are on http://FTP. Hopefully others will respond and we can see where this takes us.

Well, you know I’m in. I’d like a variety of games too since I need to work learning strategy in games other than HE. I like the AIPS set up.. once a month would probably be best.. I dont know how many of us could all commit to the same night every week. it can be open to anyone who posts on pokersift.. not just the regular bloggers. The password would be available here. If Adam mentions it on the new podcast it could be a good way to bring people to our blog too.
I dont play on pokerstars but that was only because FT was one of the only sites that worked for Macs.. not sure if that’s changed now.

Cool.. and thanks for posting the FT info, AZN…

I am in, I play on both sights, but have more money on Full Tilt

I will play if I can. Problem is I work most nights. Saturdays work much better for me but I will make an effort to be there no matter when they are.

I’d like to play, too. I’m w/Poker Kat — once a month would be good, and I, too, like how the AIPS sked is set-up. (FTP is fine for me as well.)

I’m in. FTP is best for me.

Sounds great. Full Tilt is best for me but I have a Stars account too.

Although I pretty much only play NL cash now, I’d like to try other games as Pokerkat said. I used to play Stud games a lot more, maybe we could have Stud Hi or HORSE once in a while? I’ve never played Omaha/8 in my life but I have to figure it out some time…

My desires would be to follow a format of the AIPS series. Once a month and a different game each month with buy-ins being small. Looks like most people prefer FTP so that is who we will probably go with if this ever happens.

Have fun, guys. I’m not very good tournament player, so I’ll pass on this. I play mainly shorthanded LHE, so NL tournies are a bit boring for me ;-)

@poker kat: Stars is now available for Mac. I’ve tried it out on a Mac in an Apple store, and it works great. This was one of the last things I was waiting for to make the switch–next time I upgrade my computers, I’m probably leaving Windows behind..
