Poker After Dark and other thoughts

So I’m not the biggest fan of Poker After Dark (PAD) but like the degenerate I am I do watch every episode. The new season started this week and the first episode has Seat 1: Daniel Negreanu
Seat 2: Phil Hellmuth
Seat 3: Jennifer Harman
Seat 4: Mike Matusow
Seat 5: Scotty Nguyen
Seat 6: Ken Light
The only reason I bring all this up is a comment Hellmuth said to Harman after the very first hand. Kinda hard to hear him but he tells Harman he started with the 4th best starting hand in Hold’em. He had AK. I was shocked to hear him say this but quickly got over it and laughed. How could the “The Greatest Hold’em Player” and “Bullet Dodger” state this. I presume he thinks AA, KK, and QQ are better than AK but I think many other pocket pairs should come before AK. I think he is incorrect. Love to know what other’s think.  Other quick random thought on PAD…the amateur is limping way too much (not sure if he is nervous or that is his style) and needs to get more aggressive. My pick to win is Negreanu who is playing great and as usual his reads are dead on.

So the PCA is starting this weekend and once again I won’t be playing in  it. What a shocker there. I actually wanted to play in the Aussie’s Millions but my few feable attempts at qualifying via FTP obv didn’t workout. Maybe next year, which is what I said last year.

Also, props to PokerStars for banning JJProdigy from the PCA. I like the hard-line stance they are taking but it does make me wonder about whether it is ok for others admitted cheaters to play in this event. Last year ZeeJustin (AKA Justin Bonomo) finished 11th in this event and he is banned from playing on PS for his multi-accounting antics. JJProdigy is an idiot to think the poker community would forgive him so easily after admitting that he continued cheating on other sites after he was banned from PokerStars.

I’ll be visiting a buddy in SoCal this weekend and will be playing tons of poker at Pechanga. Both MTT’s and live games. I think they spread 1/2 but I think I will go against what I said in earlier posts and just play limit. My buddy and Bellatrix made very good points about the swings of LHE and since this is a new year my luck has to change. We shall see and of course I’ll keep everyone updated as I know you all are eagerly anticipating my results …lol!!!!

BTW, nice takedown Traction!

I think it is a matter of opinion where AK ranks in the pecking order but I don’t think it is a very big deal whether you prefer AK or JJ. Hellmuth probably feels the AK is easier to play post flop and I’d tend to agree.

Regarding cheating, I think ZeeJustin feels he was in the wrong and wouldn’t do it again and with something like multiaccounting I think that’s the important part. The other guy, from what I understand, seems to think it’s just fine if he can get away with it. There is a difference to me.

Murf,

I agree with your opinion on ZeeJustin. He does seem contrite in his actions over the past year. JJProdigy seems really immature and not remorseful.

JJProdigy will probably grow up at some point too, but it’s probably years away. Or maybe he won’t, only time will tell. It’s probably a good thing for poker and for him that he is prevented from playing PCA.
