NL HE Cash Games
Last night I decided to take a break from a losing streak on low buy-in NL HE tournaments on Full Tilt. I seem to be getting in with the best hand and someone decides to gamble and then draws out on me. I was in a $5 NLHE 18 person SNG last night and we were down to 9. I’m on a semi-short stack. I go all-in UTG+1 w/ pocket 10s. UTG who had limped decided to call for most of his stack. He has Jd-10d so I’m pretty far ahead. However, runner-runner diamonds give him the flush and I’m out. How do you fight against that?
My boyfriend has been playing $1 to $2 tournaments with 90 or 180 or more people in them.. he’ll last hours to win…$17. I can’t do that. The end result isn’t worth it. I’d rather take down a quick $2 9-person SNG for $9 in a hour.
Now, cash games were good last night. I started out in the smallest available. The $0.05-0.10 NLHE. I bought in for $4. I played some small pots and got out when the betting got heavy (which was often) and I didn’t chase anything. I was able to trap really well when I had a hand and ended up getting paid off nicely. Things were flowing. I left with a little more than $12 after a 2 hour session. People really played badly and I got a lot of people trying to bet huge on the river with nothing. They also bet like that at really bad times.. like when I had a decent hand but could look back at the betting patterns and realize.. wait.. there’s really nothing you could have right now that would beat me here.
So I look forward to my next session tonight..
My question is.. does anyone have an tips for NL HE cash games.. especially for low limits online?

These games are great for implied odds. Nobody is getting away from an overpair. I buy-in for the max and like to see lots of cheap flops with small pairs, suited connectors and suited one-gappers like T8 or 64 and such. Position is always important, you can get a lot of free cards just by flat calling behind on the flop with your draws. The worse hands you start with the more money you want your opponent to have behind. It isn’t worth calling a 3 big blind raise if your opponent only has another 20 blinds left, i.e. calling $.30 with 56 suited when he only has $2.00 left. If he has another $10 left then you can play this profitably. It is also really hard to bluff, but you can value bet your made hands all day long. Good Luck!
play basic strategy and you should be able to beat these games. If you shortstacked and just folded everything but pushed AA,KK,QQ,JJ,1010, AK,AQ, you would make money.
If you want to maximize your edge though, longclaw gives good advice. Don’t limp in in early position though, you’ll get priced into seeing too many flops. As you get further down in position, limping with a very wide range becomes profitable, as long as you don’t continue unless you hit 2p or better. limping with 5 7 and getting a 7 high flop isn’t that good. You will probably lose a big pot there if you continue with the hand. Calling a raise with 98 and getting a 9 high flop might be -EV too. See a lot of cheap flops, look for 2pair or better, a nut draw, or a big pair with a big kicker, then push. Otherwise, fold the flop.
