New Year’s Resolution – Control

As 2007 comes to an end, I was thinking about the year, and where I want to go next in life and in poker. I came up with Control. Not the type of control where everyone does exactly what you tell them too or the type of control that nobody makes a decision without your approval. I want control over things I can actually have the ability to control, but for some reason refuse to control, (at least as well as I should).

Poker Goals are simple do not play above my bankroll. I am a profitable MTT & SNG player, but a loser at cash games. I had a few big cashes in MTT’s on both Stars and Tilt and cashed out some money then I hit a losing /playing like a donkey streak. I must play to my strengths (SNG, MTT) until I get a healthy bankroll. Then go back to playing cash games, but I want to have a bankroll to with stand the hit, I know I will take. This is simple to plan for and hard for me to follow. I do have my specific poker goals at http://www.loser64.blogspot.com/

I like many Americans need to lose a few pounds. I know what to do; we all do, eat less and exercise. Heck, I play tennis regularly and go to the gym and exercise on a regular basis (more than once a week). I need to continue this even step up the intensity. It’s the eating / drinking that gets me. I take oatmeal to work with me every morning, I usually leave it in my drawer and eat donuts or a pop tart or some other crappy food. I also eat junk the rest of the day, followed by a healthy lunch and dinner.

So for 2008 I want control, control of myself.

Life Lesson: True wisdom is not only knowing what to do but actually doing it.

I have a note above my desk that reads “Focus on things you can control”

I agree it’s great advice for life and poker.
