Lame (duck) UIGEA
So the UIGEA passed in its final form now (link). I’m sad, really really sad. Why is it that now that I finally am making a money at online poker the US tries to do this in a lame duck session? I don’t even understand how anybody thought prohibition of anything would be a good thing? Please, pretty please, Pokerstars, Full Tilt, Cake, please don’t leave the US. Please don’t make me cash out.
My husband was very blunt yesterday and said something to the tune of: “Well, you chose to live in this country that bans gay marriage and online gambling. If you really feel that strongly, you could always go back…” I made more money playing online poker this month than I make at my job in a month and it isn’t even the 15th yet. Yes, I understand, I’ve been very lucky, positive variance, it’s not my true winrate. But it’s still very… scary. Hey US, you want me, you pay good money for me. I’m a highly trained scientist, you know, the kind that can solve your energy problems, the kind that can give you good PR, the kind that invents stuff and companies that increase your clout. You don’t wanna lose me and be left with millions of jobless factory workers, believe me. Give me something back in return, let me steam off at home for a few hours, playing poker, having fun.
A funny line in the legislation was that cash-outs will not be punished. Ok, I guess I will become a bankroll nit, never to try to put a penny into the rooms, hope they don’t lever the market or become IP blocked (KY) and bank on the boom happening on other parts of the world, because only the sharks will remain from the US. This will hinder my moving up quickly, but I guess that’s a good thing. Gee, thanks!
I’m angry right now. But I’m also sad, home of the free my ass. There, I said it. Thanks for listening to my vent.

Also fairly bummed the sucker actually made it through to this stage (although I suppose it could’ve been much worse as far as the finalized regs actually went). Hate how the legislative process had to be exploited so unfairly for all of this to have taken place — while many are for the UIGEA (or any curbs on gambling), this law most certainly does not represent the will of the majority of Americans.
