HORSE Sense

Let’s face it.  When it comes to HORSE their really isn’t much sense to your opponents.  For those of you that don’t know HORSE is a mixed game comprised of rotations involving different games. H is for Hold’em, O is for Omaha Hi/Lo, R is for Razz, S is for Stud Hi, and E is for Stud Hi/Lo.  On Full Tilt the games are rotated every 10 hands.

Staying true to my word last week I’m taking a break from the SNG’s and I’ve played RAZZ and HORSE since then.  Last night was HORSE.  This will also become my game of choice for the near future.  The nice thing about a mixed game is that although it’s nice to be an expert in all of them, it’s not a prerequisite.  I consider myself to be a better than average hold’em and Razz player, a mediocre Omaha player, and a below average Stud player.  The benefit of playing the small stakes that I do means that my opponents often know even less.

Full Tilt offers HORSE at .25/.50 limit which is the lowest limit available.  That’s what I played last night.  Tonight I’ll probably play the .50/1 to see if the competition is any different.  If it’s not then it should be a nice evening of cards. I only played for 45 minutes last night and just about tripled my buy-in.  My opponents were willing to chase too often and they might as well have had their hole cards turned face up.  This allowed me to play straight forward ABC poker.  All I had to do was keep track of the cards out of play and the rest was rather easy.

For a change of pace I settled into a recliner and laid back as I played.  I don’t know if it was getting away from the desk or the change of game but I was able to stay focused and I really enjoyed playing.  Playing poker had become a habit lately instead of an enjoyable pursuit.  As long as it stays enjoyable, I keep playing.

If your interested in getting a hold of the new two volume Harrington On Cash Games you should head over to Pipedreams place.  He’s giving them away.
