Hello again
I haven’t written in a few weeks because I have been on an epic journey. My husband and I are moving from Chicago to San Diego (let me know if you know of any good games there, especially PLO). We took a two week road trip accross the country to California and then left from there for a five week trip to Malaysia and India. I am writing this from Amritsar, India where the Sikhs have a beautiful temple. We are keeping a blog of our trip at sandmtrip.wordpress.com, if any of you are interested in checking it out. It doesn’t have anything to do with poker, but it has been a fun way to document our adventures.
I haven’t gotten to play any cards here, but I have seen lots of gambling. Some old guys in Malaysia were playing good ol’ three card Monte, a cool Indian guy I met plays gin in a private club on the beach in Varkala, and in other rural areas I have seen something that looks like craps, but that is played with rocks instead of dice.
Anyway, I will be back to the USA at the end of September. I have been playing cards and making art full time for the past two years, but as my husband is taking a new job that pays much less, I will be looking for more steady work. Hopefully I will be able to make time to go up to Commerce everyonce in a while, get to know the card rooms in San Diego, and find a new home game. I had such a great home game in Chicago. It is one of the things I am going to miss most.

Hey Amarillosb,
I got to say you will love SD. I lived there for 3 years during high school and then left for college and plan to return one day to live there again. It is pricey like all of California and traffic is getting worse but besides that probably no better place to live. Concerning poker, I would recommend Pechanga which is north of SD in Temecula. Depending on where you live in SD it can be 45 minute to 1 hour drive but it is worth it. They have 50+ table poker room spreading all forms of holdem and they have omaha and stud and sometimes horse if they can get people. I’d stay away from tournaments because their structures suck but for cash games it is very juicy. I usually play 6-12 or 8-16 holdem and there are tons of fish in those games. Not sure if they have PLO but I know they have limit Omaha.
Other rooms down there are nothing great. Barona, Viejas, Pala and Sycuan are your options and personally none compare to Pechanga in terms of size, service and game selection.
