Helllloooo Ladies!

Two years ago at the WSOP ladies event, I lost a huge pot to Mimi Rogers. We got all in preflop. She had pocket tens, and I had the King and Queen of hearts. Don’t ask me what I was thinking. I clearly wasn’t, but my hyper aggressiveness and luck got me all the way to the final table.

I’ve played a lot of cards since then, and this year I’m actually going to be playing on the Queen of Hearts team with her and a great group of celebs and women professionals at this year’s WSOP Ladies event! Our team has pledged to donate a portion of our winnings to the Nevada Cancer institute, a nonprofit organization committed to reducing the burden of cancer through innovative and collaborative research, education and patient care.

I could pretend like this is old hat, and just another day as a poker professional, but the truth is I couldn’t be more giddy. The team is having dinner with WSOP Commissioner Jeffery Pollack next Saturday night. We’re also getting professional hair and makeup done on Sunday before the event. I’ve been a tom-boy my whole life. I rarely even wear make-up, and I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but chattin’ it up with Cheryl Hines and Barbara Enright while we get our hair curled together sounds like so much fun! Being on the team also makes me much more determined to do well this year. I would just love to give a big ol’ chunk of money to a great cause on behalf of the game that has given me so much.

You can read more about the team on pokernews.com If any of you pokersift bloggers are out in Vegas and are up for having dinner or grabbing a drink, shoot me an email wiht your contact info at shawneebarton(at)gmail.com. It would be fun to get a group of us together, and I am happy to coordinate the effort.

This is excellent! Congratulations. Seems I’m the only member of Pokersift skipping the WSOP and grinding low-stakes cash games… NEXT YEAR!
