Getting ripped off, Poker software and Cheating is stealing
A couple of general ramblings….
First, my poker update. Discovered the joy of cash games. I would say I primarily have been a SNG player, some MTTs and maybe the other 1/3 of the time a cash game player. Lately, I’ve spent so much time playing on line that I wandered into a decent size cash game, and took it down. Granted I played some great cards, but truth is there are so many more poor card players at those cash games, who just throw out the money - it fits with my style.
So I’m really excited to be hopefully reading the new Harrington on Cash games. I really think if someone studied Harrington - really got down into the nuts and bolts of his Tournament Books, then you could survive online. I’m not saying its the only way to play - just that he solid Tight Aggressive style - its tough to beat. I would imagine his cash game strategy is similar. So I can’t wait - I think it will be a great read.
On the MTT front - I had some horrible tournaments where I really regressed and played terribly. I went all in with JJ against AQ and realized what a terrible choice to coin flip early in an MTT. Then I went all in AK vs. QQ on the bubble - when the QQ came in for a big raise. I realized in hindsight - I could of let that hand pass and wait for a better hand - but truth is you got win those….and i didn’t. I have run into some incredibly aggressive players, who seem to run the table accumulate huge chip stacks - only to lose it all to a set. Just keeping my chips warm for me.
So I always like to find new interesting reads, and came across a book on the internet site Ebay which sounded great. It was okay - but was basically a collection of hands and some thoughts. More like a quiz than a book - I felt incredibly ripped off. The hand insights were good, and the text solid…but it was like 20 pages for 20 bucks. In the interest of what goes around comes around …. I’ll be putting up the hands as a QUIZ here on pokersift, and then posting their answer somewhat later. That way I’ll feel like my 20 bucks was worthwhile.
I found an interesting site - poker pro labs (or pro poker labs) with some interesting software to boot. They have a buddy finder program - and I love my on line ATM buddies that look interesting along with some other software. Marty Smith is behind it - and I give him props as he came up with the Mfactor Tournament indicator and SitNgoreport.com is his website. He has some low limit video’s that he pedals and is a great promoter of low limit poker improvement. I give him respect because he was kind enough to help me get my software going a few years ago and provided me with some great video’s on MTT tournaments.
Finally, I was talking to a few 19 year old poker players I know - both play hockey on the same team. Seems they have this gig where they share hands, discuss play and generally cheat with each other to fix the game. Then it came up that their are lots of others who use this same MSN gig to get ahead. Finally Adobe Connect Live came out where basically you can telecast your game. I use it to broadcast a tournament to those railing me - generally to discuss hands after they are played…so they can watch. Then it hit me…this could be a big scandal. Pretty soon this software will replace messenger and others will consipire to fill a table - broadcast all their hands to each other - and suck some poor fish in like me….
Finally, youth today cheat to win. The cheat in their video games, they cheat on line, they cheat on exams. Basically if you ain’t cheating you ain’t trying. Forget about Absolute Poker - I’m talking how much cheating goes on at 1/2 NL poker. It scares me……
Still trying to get ahead. 1400 more VPPs and I am a silver star - not sure if my bankroll will allow me to make it.
Finally props to CTOWNPRO a low limit grinder who made a startling discovery. He was watching a cash game and saw a DONKEY. He followed said donkey to a table - much higher stakes, and proceeded to sit to his right. He put his money in and played 2 hands against the stalked donkey. In one - a straight flush - he pwnd the Donkey. The Donkey Reloads and gets all his money in against CTOWN who is waiting there with AK and a flush. Sure enought Pwnd again. The key was sitting down in the right position against the right player. He took all his money. Lesson learned. Find em - kill em.
Enough losing - trying to get it all back before my big radio/podcast interview monday.
