DOYLISM OF THE DAY: “If you don’t prepare to win, be prepared to lose.”

The do over’s are over, I am setting a goal today, I am going to get to $10,000 in my online bankroll.  I currently am not even close.

At work today we were talking about what we do best, our core business, and the need to restart this business and then grow our non-core business.  I am in logistics, we move product from place to place on trucks, servicing our customers is our core business.

So what does that have to do with poker?  I have strayed away from my core poker business, which is tournament play.  I have worried too much about getting rake back account, or trying to become an Iron Man, I have once again, moved away from my strength.

So where do I go from here?  I am going back to square one.  I am going to focus on tournaments and sit n go’s.  I am going to play cash games one or two table at a time.

In order to achieve this I have…  My Poker 10 commitments:
I am going to start, once again, to keep detailed records of my poker play.
I am going to get Poker Tracker and actually figure out how to use poker tracker in order to enhance my poker playing skills.  I need to first understand my weaknesses before I can worry about others.

I am going to stop doing things that I do not have an edge in.  How stupid is it to win money playing one thing and give it all back playing another game.

I am going to focus on the quality of my play instead of the results.
I am going to eat better, exercise more, play with my kids more.
I am not going to play poker on work nights past 1130 PM.  Nothing good happens when I am too tired.
I am going to play stakes that force me to pay attention and not say “what the hell, it’s a dime.”
I am not going to allow myself to donk of the last of my chips, when I feel I am beat I am going to get out.  99 times out of 100 when I feel I am beat I am.

I am going to play games other then NLHE, that I have an edge in.
I am not going to focus on non-core items.  (Iron man, rake back).  If I take care my core business these will take of themselves.  I am not going to play 3 or 4 tables just to make some point total that may benefit me at the end of the year.

I am going to expand my core business to make cash games a bigger part, the slow grind upward is easier in cash games.

As a side note:  I am going to stop whining about these things, if I am too dumb to follow my own advice, I need to stop giving it.  I will continue to comment on poker and my play.

there are some vids on youtube on how to use pokertracker, it’s a useful tool although I despise it and refuse to use it.

PokerTracker is the single greatest tool for online poker. I have downloaded a online book on how to use it. I play 1-2 NL on FT, either 4 or 6 tables at at time. I was up to 12 tables at once but realized that my $ per hour was lower and I was giving up too much equity in a quest for rakeback. With 4 (or 6) PT Game time windows open. This gives you a huge edge, allowing you to find the soft tables and avoid the money bags (the good players).

I have also data-mined FT and my PT currently has about 4.5 million hands of 1-2 NL.

I have downloaded a good online book on how to use PT if you are interested.

I am interested. TY my email loser64poker@gmail.com

Sounds like solid ideas for refocusing. We tend to chase down these “benefits” no matter what. Kinda like spending an extra $2 in gas for a $1 coupon.

Loser64… I just sent you the Poker Tracker Guide to your gmail. Let me know what you think.

Thanks
