Comparing winning and losing
I’m wondering how other people feel about winning sessions and losing sessions. Three questions for anyone who can take the time out to answer.
Is it harder to sleep after a big win or a big loss?
In comparing your satisfaction over a big win to your disappointment over a big loss, which is greater?
How long does the dissapointment over a big loss stay with you and how do you best get rid of it?

After I play a I am usually pretty energized. I find that when I sit for a while calm, controlled and focused I usually want to bust out of my skin after… so I couldn’t sleep win or lose.
I’m more satisfied with a win for a longer amount of time. I’m angry with myself or disappointed with bad luck or a player but that fades after I write about it, talk about it for hours/days (haha) or just play next time. I try to shake it down to a lesson learned and move on.
A great question. I think the top players tend not to be overly affected by winning or losing — in other words, winning/losing doesn’t determine how they feel afterwards as much as playing well/playing poorly does. (Proving I ain’t there yet.)
it is hard to sleep after big wins and loses and easy to sleep after little wins and little loses.
Dissapointment is greatest when going out on the bubble in a large tournament when you know you could have gotten first
I am usually upset for a day or so after a big loss. I find that I can make myself feel better by reviewing the key hands step by step and figuring out where I went wrong. Sometimes I figure out that I did nothing wrong and losing a big hand was unavoidable. This makes me feel worse.
1. win
2. loss
3. If I am in a general upstreak, usually don’t get rocked, but if it’s been a rough few months, I feel it for weeks. I usually take a day or two off and then play more if I lost big live. I will take longer and then keep plying if it’s online.

Well, I have a hard time sleeping after playing poker anyway. If it was a big session up or down it is even harder to sleep.
The high from a big win is always bigger than the low of a big loss. If I win a decent sized tournament or three or four buy-ins at one table I am happy for days. If I donk out on the bubble of a tournament or blow three or four buy-ins at one table I may think about it until the next session but not all week long.
To get past a big loss I usually need to stop for the night. I will watch some TV or read a book, maybe go out to the garage and work on something. I just need to get away from it for awhile. If I can come back the next day and book a small win I can feel a little better about myself and forget about donking the day before.
