Anyone Want to Be A Tournament Reporter?
The WSOP is coming up sooner than ever this year and all the major media outlets are looking for seasonal help. If anyone is interested in tournament reporting, now is the time to apply.
I’ve done freelance work and tournament reporting for the past two years during the WSOP. I even covered one of our bloggers at a final table! The job has its perks and downsides, including:
Pros:
-Get to meet all the fake poker celebrities
-Get to experience living in Vegas and playing lots of poker
-Experience firsthand the madness that is the WSOP
-Great experience and stories to tell
-Get a press badge, can sweat players and see how they really play their hole cards
Cons
-Work long hours, usually underpaid
-Have to live in unbearable 120+ degree Vegas summer
-The series is long and you will get tired, burnt out
-You may have to cover a Razz final table and watch 10+ hours of Razz
-If you’re new, you might have to do a lot of the bitch work before you start doing meaningful stuff
If you are interested, it’s a fun summer job, better than waiting tables. The poker media industry is still in its formative period - there aren’t a lot of rules and many can get in without stellar credentials. If you have writing talent and, more importantly, a passion for poker, you can usually get your foot in the door.
I’m taking less and less of a role in this stuff as the years go by, but if anyone likes the idea of jumping in, I can give pretty unbiased advice and aid.

I am extremely interested in tournament reporting. I did send apply to Card Player Media for their position and was wondering if you could help point me in the right direction for any more available positions.
