Free Money for all you low level grinders

http://www.pokerstrategy.com/u99933

Check out the pokerstrategy link…..After reading many of their articles, and getting the FREE 50$ – I’ve managed to turn it in to a nice profit and continue to grow my roll.

My speciality remains grinding the 1-5$ SNG’s and I’ve continued to dabble in the MTT’s and Cash Games … with limited success.
Anyone struggling to get a roll, I suggest you take advantage of the free fifty from pokerstrategy…

The Next Step in Poker Marketing?

There’s been quite an uproar on some online sites and forums about the latest promotion from pokerstars.  Pokerstars is giving away massive bonuses to ANY UK player who earns a minimal amount of points over the course of May, up to 80,000 points which is most of the way to the exalted Supernova status that small-stakes players like me grind 6 months to achieve (confirmation from a huge 2p2 thread).

I’m quite torn on whether this is a positive step for online poker.  I’ve heard at least two compelling arguments for why this makes sense:

All about Poker Affiliates

First things first.  Many, many users believe Full Tilt needs to change it’s affiliate policies. If you are one of them, please visit Onlinepetition.com, and sign the petition asking them to do so.

Now, more about affiliates than you probably ever wanted to know…

A poker affiliate is a company or person that receives a commission for sending new players to the poker sites that they work for.  For the most part, affiliates attract new players through online marketing efforts.  Their commission can either come as a one-time up-front payment or a percentage of the action the player gives the site for as long as they have an account.

The Main Event Final Table Videos

If you haven’t seen the final table for the World Series of Poker 2008 Main Event, you can catch the videos below.

Lame (duck) UIGEA

So the UIGEA passed in its final form now (link). I’m sad, really really sad. Why is it that now that I finally am making a money at online poker the US tries to do this in a lame duck session? I don’t even understand how anybody thought prohibition of anything would be a good thing?  Please, pretty please, Pokerstars, Full Tilt, Cake, please don’t leave the US. Please don’t make me cash out.

Elements of Poker

I just finished reading “The Elements of Poker” by Tommy Angelo. “Wow!” is one of the few words I can say.

The book gives very few strategic comments. In fact, most of the book can be described as Zen-like mumbo jumbo, with Tommy spending many pages on breathing techniques and Yoga. But guess what? It WORKS. Not because I have tried the breathing or other stuff he says in his “elements”. It works, because Tommy is a professional, who knows how to talk about poker. He’s been there, playing his C-game, chasing losses, lamenting bad beats. Every single one of us has been there…

R.I.P. Brandi?

Brandi HawbakerIf you have never heard the name Brandi Hawbaker you probably haven’t spent much time at the various poker forums over the last couple of years.  Mike and Adam have also frequently mentioned her on the pokercast as well.  She broke onto the scene in 2006 at the WPT Festa Al Lago where she finished in 35th place.

Since that time she has been the center of several poker dramas and has been linked to several well known poker pros including Gus Hansen, Mark Newhouse, Dustin Woolf, “Captain” Tom Franklin, and even David Sklansky to name a few.  Some of the threads on 2+2 have reached over 100 pages.

E-pass is passe

Just 2 days ago I used e-passporte for transferring money between sites to get 600$ to Poker Stars to get that new bonus they had. I guess I was lucky. E-passporte will no longer accept and transfer money to and from poker sites. They pulled out.  I find their motivation understandable, but their timing is weird. Is something to come in the world of online poker / UIGEA? Or is this just a random event in an online poker players career?

A Nemeth Rebuttal

The good Dr. Pauly recently had a guest post from poker reporter BJ Nemeth in regards to the WSOP 90-day delay.  If you haven’t read it do so now and then come back.

I admit I agree with some of the things Mr. Nemeth has to say so I’ll limit myself to only the items that I don’t agree with.

The Sun Setting on an Old Pro

I was playing at the Wynn’s 1/3 No Limit game last Thursday night when an interesting player came into our game.

“Is this seat taken?” A gentleman asked in a Forrest Gump-esque Southern drawl. Curly grey hair, a boyish grin, and a slightly receding hairline, the man peeled off a couple of hundreds from a stack in his pocket. The face looked familiar, but where had I seen it?
