Headed down to the Venetian today for the Deep Stack series. What started so beautifully online in the month of January turned south. I still made money in Jan. but just not as much as hoped or expected. Now I’ll spend the next 20 days playing live and happily interacting with people rather than a keyboard. While down there I’m hoping to pick up a new car as my 96 Camry is on its last leg. Probably going with something boring as I already have a Jeep and need a vehicle with some sort of gas efficiency. After the main event I will going to Brazil to warm up and drink cachaca.

Hope to see some friends who travel the circuit and catch up. If you’re at the Venetian stop by and say hi. Most likely will be wearing a Gamecock hat or some sweatshirt with Brazil written on it. It’s usually 50 degrees in the poker room so I layer up. Good luck.

Lately I have been playing pretty much exclusively online. It has been ok with no big wins but also no big losses. I am a bit anxious to play a series of live tournaments. My goal is to drive down to LA the last week in January and play a few events at the LAPC then head to San Diego for Harrahs Rincon WSOPC event. After that is over I will head back to LA for the rest of the series. One thing I have focused on lately is varying my games besides NL Hold’em. As the field has been leveled in Hold’em I have noticed there are big edges in games that are becoming more populated with new players as they attempt to broaden their poker horizons as well. I am really looking forward to Razz and Stud Hi/lo this year at the WSOP.

If there are any other bloggers/readers on here who are in LA stop by and say hi at the tables. I am usually wearing a red Gamecocks hat.

Over the last few days I have read many resolutions for the upcoming year. It made me question what it was that I wanted to accomplish. I had a winning year last year and was very happy with my progress as a poker player. All I have desired to further is my poker development and bankroll. I finally feel that I have turned that corner where if I truly put in the hours in mtts there is no doubt in my mind I could be one of the top players online. The problem I have is I am not diligent about putting in the amount of time necessary. I switch between cash games and mtts and sometimes altogether take too much time away from the tables. Both cash and tourneys have been very rewarding for me.

This year I considered going for Supernova Elite on Stars. I felt this might give me a qualifiable goal force me to put in the hours needed. After reading posts of some of those who have attained SNE status, I realize it is something that totally infringes on so many other aspects of your life. I would be forced to play about 1.5 million hands this year which means 8-10 tabling cash games for 10 hours a day. This would destroy any semblance of a social life I had and probably not make me a joy to be around. Therefore, I settled on trying to go for Supernova status which is 1/10th of SNE. Definitely doable. I’ll be able to mix cash games and mtts on a regular basis and try to excel at both. Day 1, (today) I did a little of both. Nice to start with a win on the first day. These $50 buyins have a good mix of online pros and online donks. About a year ago I wanted to find a coach to help me out with my tourney game. No real luck in finding one so I have developed the game on my own and I am pretty happy with my style now. A buddy of mine suggested I make it a goal to do a voluminous amount of tournaments to get ranked by one of the ranking sites. Although I think it would not be difficult I am always about focusing on ROI versus just cashes. Never bought in to the theory of throw a ton of shit a the wall and see what sticks. Good luck in whatever goal you set out to accomplish.

Yes, I hope to blog on a regular basis. Not always that easy but I am giving it my best shot for 2008. I have have a pretty good 2007. I ended the year winning the nightly $100k on Pokerstars for about 29k. A week later I won a $200 live tourney at Pot of Gold for about 6200. Definitely a great way to end the year in poker. Going forward I hope to spend more time on the road playing tournies in Vegas and LA and of course more time online if the games don’t dry up. Right now I play live tournaments up to about a $2k buyin. I would like to play some main events this year. I hope you follow along as I progress and move up stakes and bankroll.

In this blog I will post a little strategy, some interesting stories, some HHs, and the occasional picture. I also have my own blog at www.tractionpoker.blogspot.com.

Ciao,
