Possible Changes to 2008 WSOP ME

Read the following today on Wicked Chops Poker:

“Rumors are circulating on the so-called “Internet” and from various well-placed sources that Harrahs is mulling the idea of making final table of the 2008 WSOP Main Event a live television event on ESPN, airing possibly in October. Play would be halted this July once the field was whittled down to its final nine players, and then delayed until three months later. The idea is to make the final table a big television event with plenty of lead time to hype the finalists and so no one knows who the winner is until the show airs.
What we’re actually hearing from our particular sources is that the final table would not actually broadcast live but would be filmed on a closed set at a later date, then edited and broadcast about two days later.
A decision hasn’t been made yet, according to our sources, but officials are leaning towards making this happen.”

Michael Craig

So for those who read Poker Author Michael Craig’s blog on Full Tilt Poker you may have read the below posts:

It Could Always be Worse, Much Worse.

New Life for the Turbo King.

At first I thought the first post was a joke since it came out on April Fools day but apparently it wasn’t. Sounds like his life is very chaotic but I’m troubled by the fact that he appears to put poker and FTP above his children and there welfare. For the record I was a big fan of The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King and only started reading his blog and enjoying it but after reading these posts not sure what to think of him. What do you all think?

Nice cash bad deal and other stuff

Went down to the casino and played in the daily $60 tournament. I hadn’t played a tourney there since January and now they have added an optional $20 rebuy which I did at the first break so I was now in for $80. They were over 110 runners and I made the final table. 6 hours later and 4 handed I was 2nd in chips. We decide to make a deal and I walked away with almost 1k. I short changed myself a couple hundred by not negotiating like I should have but I was exhausted (that’s what I get for not eating or drinking anything in about 7 hours) and just wanted it to be over. After thinking about all night, I became very disappointed in myself for not negotiating more. I let my physical and mental state get to me and took less that I should have. I won’t make that mistake again. Overall played well, got unlucky then lucky at the final table and walked away with a nice profit. By making the final table I qualified for a free roll in 2 weeks with a prize pool of $12,500.

The Ultimate Gambler

So in my last post I had mentioned I was supposed to leave Sunday February 24th for Las Vegas. Well unfortunately that did not happen as my grandfather Pablo passed away the night before. I guess he got the last laugh on all of us as he was not able to go due to health reasons and figured since he can’t go, none of us should go. His passing while a shock was not completely surprising. He was almost 91 and had been in declining health for some time. I know he was ready to go and I was glad that it was quick and hopefully painless. I’m sure it was scary for him in those last few minutes but I know he is in a better place with my grandmother looking down on all of us.

Various thoughts and update

Hey everyone…I know it has been a long time since I last posted…not much going on for me poker wise. Been donating more on FTP and PS. I’ve been cashing in numerous sngs but then giving it all back in cash games. That is a big leak for me. Overall successful in live ring games but down on-line. Also been trying to expand my horizons and play something other than holdem. Been playing some PLO cash and razz tourneys and then playing the chimps and AIPS poker series. AIPS so far through 2 tourneys has been a bust. Played Stud high last night and I’ve officially determined that is my worst game which puzzles me because I have had success in razz and stud 8 but stud high for some reason is an enigma for me. Chimps on the other hand has been great. I finished 2nd this past week in O8 (My new favorite game) after a lengthy and see saw battle against my opponent who knew what he was doing. I am currently second in points in the series through 6 events even though I’ve only played in 5 events. The leader is our very own loser64 who is a familiar face at the final table of every event. Also played 2 of Pauly’s PLO tourneys on Saturdays…I bubbled the final table last week when my hammer full house got beaten by top full house…fun tourneys to play.

Vegas Daily Tournaments

So I will be heading to Vegas at the end of the month for 3 days and was wondering if anyone has played in the larger daily buy-in tourneys i.e. Bellagio, Venetian and Caesar’s tourneys.  What in your opinion is best bang for your buck, level of competition, and structure. I’m tired of playing live low-buy in tourneys (under $100) which imo are donk fests. A few weeks ago I played in a $45 tourney and one of the players asked what an ante was when they were introduced. That is what I hope to avoid. I know I should enjoy playing against inexperienced/worse players but in reality for tournaments I don’t want that. I’d rather play against people who know what they are doing and will make proper lay-downs or not chase when they flop bottom pair to your over pair and make 2 pair on the river. Now, I may not even get that in these tourney’s but I hope the quality is somewhat better. Sorry for the rant, any opinions on daily mid buy-in size tourney’s are appreciated!!!

Props to Shamus

Came across this best of 2007 list on Snoopys Blog and our own PokerSifter, Short Stack Shamus gets an honorable mention on category 15. I can see why Dr. Pauly got the award (Big fan of his writings)  but this crown may only last 1 year as Hard Boiled Poker may overtake him next year.

Congrats Shamus

MY SECOND CHIMPS Tourney

So I just finished playing the NLH w/rebuys event on the CHIMPS poker series. Out of 25 runners and 73 re-buys and add-ons I finished 2nd losing to Zerbet. I didn’t rebuy and did the add-on so I was only in for $3. I won $22.54 for a profit of $19.54. I played well, trapped successfully and of course got lucky.

Nice lucky hand right here in some blind vs. blind action. I knew guy was strong preflop and on the flop but no way I’m folding the straight flush draw with 2 overs (even though that didn’t matter). He wasn’t too happy after this hand. Would anyone else have folded this draw?

Such a sick hand

So came across this hand yesterday while trying to see if Tom Dwan has a blog. For those who don’t know Dwan AKA Durr is a highly successful high stakes player and recently has been making a name for himself in the tournament scene.

This hand may be the sickest I have ever scene in terms of the stakes and the suckout.

PokerSift Poker League

Hi All,

PokerKat left a comment in my previous Chimps PLO post about starting a tournament series likes AIPS and CHIMPS. I have thought about this too and think this would be an awesome idea. Not sure how to start one of these but this would be a lot of fun and we all could help each other out with certain games like in my case PLO. Seems like FTP may be the best choice but I’m open to PokerStars also. Also in case you haven’t heard, it sounds like Adam and Mike from the 2+2 pokercast are going to be starting up a weekly free roll for listeners over on PokerStars. It will be password protected so listen to there podcasts to get the password. Hopefully this will be starting in a few weeks.
