WSOP Horse

As most of you know already, ESPN this past Tuesday aired 2 hours of the 50k Horse event. I was eagerly awaiting this show because I love it when they show something other than No Limit Holdem and I wanted to see this star-studded packed final table. Also, horse is an amazing game and my favorite form of poker to play. When this final table was happening I had heard about the raucous atmosphere going on but what I saw on ESPN blew me away and shocked me.

Utter Poker Devastation

Ok so the title may be a little dramatic but what I experienced tonight will haunt me for some time. It has been a long time since I posted. I have had little time for poker due to grad school which started in June. I’ve deposited a few times on Star’s for the sole purpose of trying to get a seat in the LAPT event at Uruguay. This event has been my focus for the past few weeks but with no luck playing in some $8.80 rebuys. This was the only LAPT event I tried for because it fits my school schedule the best. So yesterday, I played a Sunday million $8.80 6 max double shootout with one $215 seat guaranteed. I won that seat, unregistered from the Sunday mill (won a 2nd DS and played in massive Sunday mill tourney but busted in less than an hour when I ran QQ into KK) and registered for the Sunday $215 LAPTLa Punta de Este event. 1 seat guaranteed and for every 5k in the prize pool another seat guaranteed. Well we ended up getting 52 players which was enough for 2 seat plus 3rd and 4th getting some cash.

WSOP Plans Anyone?

So is anyone going to the play in any of the events of the WSOP this year? I more than likely won’t be playing due to the fact that I start an intensive grad school program June 2nd and won’t have much of a life for the next year. I’ve been the last two years and had a blast.

Stars Payout Schedule

So finally able to blog about something that has intrigued and annoyed me since last Sunday. I finally redeposited after a few months layoff on Stars and decided to play the $10+1 15k guaranteed tournament. They ended up getting 3364 players for a prize pool over $33K. I ended up playing for over 4.5 hours and busted out 20th for a whopping $74.01 for a $63.01 profit. Now the issue I have is that first place was slightly over $4.6K. Now this seems awful small for a 33k prize pool…just over 14% was set aside for first. I thought my payout for 20th place was small also.

It’s official, WSOP ME Final Table Delayed

What was speculated a few weeks ago is now official, ESPN and Harrah’s Caesar’s will delay the final table till November 9th, almost 4 months after it is played down to the final table. This is bad for poker in my opinion but probably a boon for ESPN and Caesars.

They will play down from 9 to 2 on the 9th and then the HU finale will be played in the evening of the 10th and it will air on the 11th but they are only doing a normal 2 hour show. You would think they can do more than 2 hours…hopefully that will change. Not sure if they will do the PPV like they have done the last 2 years.

3 sets flopped

So I can’t remember ever seeing this before…wonder if you all have. Found this hand on-line

Possible Changes to 2008 WSOP ME

Read the following today on Wicked Chops Poker:

“Rumors are circulating on the so-called “Internet” and from various well-placed sources that Harrahs is mulling the idea of making final table of the 2008 WSOP Main Event a live television event on ESPN, airing possibly in October. Play would be halted this July once the field was whittled down to its final nine players, and then delayed until three months later. The idea is to make the final table a big television event with plenty of lead time to hype the finalists and so no one knows who the winner is until the show airs.
What we’re actually hearing from our particular sources is that the final table would not actually broadcast live but would be filmed on a closed set at a later date, then edited and broadcast about two days later.
A decision hasn’t been made yet, according to our sources, but officials are leaning towards making this happen.”

Michael Craig

So for those who read Poker Author Michael Craig’s blog on Full Tilt Poker you may have read the below posts:

It Could Always be Worse, Much Worse.

New Life for the Turbo King.

At first I thought the first post was a joke since it came out on April Fools day but apparently it wasn’t. Sounds like his life is very chaotic but I’m troubled by the fact that he appears to put poker and FTP above his children and there welfare. For the record I was a big fan of The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King and only started reading his blog and enjoying it but after reading these posts not sure what to think of him. What do you all think?

Nice cash bad deal and other stuff

Went down to the casino and played in the daily $60 tournament. I hadn’t played a tourney there since January and now they have added an optional $20 rebuy which I did at the first break so I was now in for $80. They were over 110 runners and I made the final table. 6 hours later and 4 handed I was 2nd in chips. We decide to make a deal and I walked away with almost 1k. I short changed myself a couple hundred by not negotiating like I should have but I was exhausted (that’s what I get for not eating or drinking anything in about 7 hours) and just wanted it to be over. After thinking about all night, I became very disappointed in myself for not negotiating more. I let my physical and mental state get to me and took less that I should have. I won’t make that mistake again. Overall played well, got unlucky then lucky at the final table and walked away with a nice profit. By making the final table I qualified for a free roll in 2 weeks with a prize pool of $12,500.
