Just an Update
I haven’t blogged here in awhile.. but when I stopped by and read about Bellatrix’s dilemma I wanted to update on somethings.. I was laid off from my apparel design job 2 days before my 29th bday. Working 9-6 used to kill me. I hated it. Also, for some reason I always ended up in the least inspiring work spaces.. dark corners. Makes us creative types just want to explode.. Well, the whole time I was trapped in my salary job dreaming of playing poker, pursing my own creative venture and just seeing daylight.. I guess I finally got my wish.
A Release
I’ve returned from a Vegas weekend. We decided to extend the weekend by 1 day. It was nice not having anywhere else to be. This was definitely a trip for celebrating and releasing. I found myself start to get a bit frustrated when I thought about losing my job. It never got to the point.. why me? I don’t question my abilities. I knew why my number came up and it didn’t have anything to do with my work.
Unemployed and Playing Poker
This is seeming a little strange.. I am approaching my 29th birthday and I find myself unemployed… again. It seems like a dream.. like it’s just a long weekend. I had planned a Vegas trip for this weekend so it just seems like an extra day off was tacked on.. Well, yesterday while I was eating my salad at my computer.. in my dark corner of an office.. I was approached and asked to come to a meeting. I knew it. I sort of knew it was coming with all the lay offs and my lack of seniority at this company. The moment they say the words though, it is real. Another victim of our terrible economy.
patience, patience and more patience
I have made my return to live poker after 2 solid months off.. My first session back was not so good. Had my Aces cracked by a 5-7 when my opponent rivered 2 pair. Very painful and I even joked with him that I was going to beat him up in the parking lot.. (but really, for that, I should have). Well the other night I decided to play at Commerce – there definitely was craziness with the LAPC wrapping up later this week. It was very loud in there.
1 Year Later and 2009 Goals
My first post to this blog was December 22nd 2007. So much has happened since then. I was living 3000 miles from where I am now. When I was playing poker in Florida I had become accustom to the players and games in the Tampa Bay Area. I had some struggles at first but then began beating the games I was playing. I grew a lot as a player in 2007.
A Few Not So Proud Words
Poker, lately, has been a struggle and the worst part (or maybe the best) is that I’ve been playing a lot. I really love playing. There’s been so much going on in my personal life in the past few months and poker has become my place I go to.. escape.. yeah maybe.. I still feel like I’ve been playing well but I’ve really been losing a lot. I’m a bit disgusted with myself..
Missing Poker.. And New Online Cash Out Options
I just returned from 8 days in Shanghai, China.. which was quite the experience to say the least. My brother was marrying his Chinese bride and we all flew out for the celebration. If you ever happen to find yourself on a plane to China.. a few tips: Don’t travel in the summer- insane humidity- worse than Florida- and the pollution didn’t help, pack snacks- the novelty of the food took 5 days to wear off- I would have paid $100 for a cheeseburger on day 6, pack tissues, and don’t plan on driving while there- traffic rules are merely a suggestion and do not apply.
Atlantic City and The Eternal Question.. East Coast vs West Coast
Today I’m blogging from NJ. I am a New Jersey native.. born and raised in South Jersey. My boyfriend moved here in High School and that’s actually when we met. His twin is marrying an elementary school friend of mine this weekend so we’re both staying with our folks.. anytime I visit my mom I have no choice but to travel the 30 minutes down the Parkway to Atlantic City.
Weekend Vegas Trip Part 2
On Saturday we woke up around 12pm and went down for breakfast around 1pm. We decided we would check out the Rio and then try to get into a 7pm tournament at Planet Hollywood.
Weekend Vegas Trip Part 1
For some reason, I haven’t been in the mood to post in awhile- despite having resent success on Poker Stars. However, we took our first weekend trip out to Vegas on 6/6-6/8 after moving to LA.. so I asked around and found the best time to leave on Friday would be after rush hour.. so we hung out til about 7:15 and couldn’t wait any longer so we hit the road. It was an easy drive that took a little under 4 hours (probably with the excitement I drove a little faster than I should have in my Jeep)… and gas wasn’t too too horrible.
