It’s RSS Awareness Day
In recognition of RSS awareness day I want to point out the RSS feeds for my current blogs/projects. That amounts to a total of three right now but come late summer I’ll be launching a few more projects.
There are also numerous RSS readers out there. The one I use is Google Reader. Check it out!
A Nemeth Rebuttal
The good Dr. Pauly recently had a guest post from poker reporter BJ Nemeth in regards to the WSOP 90-day delay. If you haven’t read it do so now and then come back.
I admit I agree with some of the things Mr. Nemeth has to say so I’ll limit myself to only the items that I don’t agree with.
HORSE Sense
Let’s face it. When it comes to HORSE their really isn’t much sense to your opponents. For those of you that don’t know HORSE is a mixed game comprised of rotations involving different games. H is for Hold’em, O is for Omaha Hi/Lo, R is for Razz, S is for Stud Hi, and E is for Stud Hi/Lo. On Full Tilt the games are rotated every 10 hands.
April Foolishness
That didn’t last long. Busto already.
Of Course I was never really doing any of that anyway. My vein attempt at an April Fool’s post was apparently very convincing as I heard from many well wishers. I thought it was absurd to think that I’d never run bad for more than a month (ever) and that I could support my family playing $6.50 SNG’s. You all must think I’m a lot better player than I really am. I’m not even sure it would be possible for the best SNG player who ever lived to accomplish that feat. I even used the username slooflirpa which is april fools backwards as my Cake Poker moniker.
Going Pro
After 18 years of servitude to the Man I’ve reached a turning point in my life. With my 40th birthday approaching it has become high time that I follow my heart and do something that I love. Because of that I have quit my job and decided to “go pro”.
With the current economic situation in the US I’ve been able to refinance my home for a very low rate and with the money I’ll save in gas my poker income should be enough. I know that 6 months living expenses is preferred but considering my past results 3 months should be plenty. I’ve never had more than one losing month in a row ever so I should be able to play through any down swing.
Poker Week In A Picture
There wasn’t much I did right this week came it came to the SNG’s. My playing time has decreased but that makes it more important from a psychological standpoint that I put some wins together. With fewer days played the ups and downs can seem to last longer than they really are.
On Tuesday I played 8 games and finished fourth a total of five times. Then throw in two sevenths and a sixth for a disastrous evening.
The rest of the week didn’t go much better as I collected one first, one second, and one third out of the sixteen played. A glorious -48.1% ROI.
An Opposite Effect – A Legislative Stall
The upcoming Presidential election will have no effect on Online Poker in any way. Let me repeat that, The upcoming Presidential election will have no effect on Online Poker in any way.
Our plight is not an issue that will be determined by the Executive Branch of government. It will be determined by the Legislative Branch. Unfortunately the Legislative Branch is composed of the most “out of touch” members of our society. As a whole they claim to “feel your pain:, or “connect with the working man”, but these are just words. Words they use to position themselves for re-election. If you are ever in doubt of this fact I encourage you to write your congressmen. The middle of the road, non committal response you get will leave you with no doubt.
Online Poker: Does Everyone Cheat? Part III
Conclusions
As I discussed in Parts I and II there can be a large array of exploits when it comes to online poker. What may be considered immoral to some, may not be to others. Is it a question of morals? If something isn’t specifically banned by a site, is it still wrong?
For me the answer is… maybe.
I certainly consider everything mentioned in Part I to be cheating. In Part II I’d only consider the “Dark Grey” areas to be cheating.
Online Poker: Does Everyone Cheat? Part II
Gray Area
The waters are muddy in the online shark tank. The only thing online and live poker really have in common is the name of the game. The instant a computer enters the equation everything is changed drastically. This spans from the way the cards are dealt to the add-on’s the end user has at their disposal. It is these differences that lead many to the dark side. For the rest of us the large gray area in between is where we make our home.

Online Poker: Does Everyone Cheat?
Part I
The differences between online poker and it’s brick and mortar roots are obvious. The online realm offers much more freedom and diversity. You can play in whatever attire (or lack of) you desire. Table selection is hugely varied. You don’t have to tip the dealer. You can even do and say incredibly stupid things and no one will ever know who you are.
That also leads to some drawbacks. You can’t see your opponent. Can’t tell what type of person they may be. Nothing to pick up a physical tell from. No accountability.
