Slipping into the Dark Side:

I have written a lot about my desire to play more cash games; I should say play cash games at a profit. I have tried many times and usually became an ATM for all my opponents. I can almost her them say “Here comes loser64, let’s get him at out table”. I was always assured to play until I went broke, usually more then one time at a table.

I have been pretty successful playing Sit n Go’s and have had my moments in MTT’s. Cash games were another story. So what has changed?

There are two things:

I played What? Razz what the hell is Razz?

It was an interesting weekend.  Took some brutal hits, and dang near bubbled every Sit-N-GO I played.  The cash games started off rough, On Friday I was playing on 43 tables.  With in 2 minutes I was dealt QQ and lost to AA then to a Set J’s.  (the Jacks felted me).

More on Playing with Donkey’s and Stuff:

I was listening to this weeks Two Plus Two Poker cast the guys interviewed Mike Sexton, he talked about no longer having to make a living grinding out 8 to 10 hours a day and how the pressure was so much less and how poker has become fun again.

I like to have fun playing poker; I assume that we all play poker to have fun. My challenge is I get stressed out paying above my bankroll, and I get aggravated by the poor play, and the usual suck outs that happen.

Hunting Donkey’s

It has been a challenging last few weeks.  You know the type when you miss most of your draws and your opponents hit all theirs or even better you hit your and you get out flopped by an inferior hand.  This has been my last few weeks.
For example I have had AA cracked but all of the following 88, JJ, KK, 74 (suited of course) I raised 3 to 4 X every time.  I won with AA 2 out of the last 7 times I have had it.  I lost with KK vs. KK when a flush came.  It has been just a tad frustrating.
The funny thing is that several poker players whose game I respect have been losing the same way.  It must be the time of year for Full Tilt.
Having said all that …. I welcome the plays, I want 74 playing against my AA.  I believe in the long run it all comes around, I will be rewarded.
I also feel that I have not always played as well as I should have, in other hands that is, (Getting it all in heads up pre-flop with AA is rarely wrong).  I have been watching the training videos on pokerfox.net and have realized that I do not always have the correct plan or that what a bet looks like to others.  I am being more careful about my play against, what deem are bad players, I am not playing big pots unless I have the best hand.
I think I figured some of my cash game woes, when I play against extremely loose players I loosen my game up, but I loosen it too much.  I also have not paid as close attention to position that has changed and I have had positive results.
So bring dem Donkies on… I am ready for them.
Thought for the day: Nothing good happens in the big blind.

DOYLISM OF THE DAY: “If you don’t prepare to win, be prepared to lose.”

The do over’s are over, I am setting a goal today, I am going to get to $10,000 in my online bankroll.  I currently am not even close.

At work today we were talking about what we do best, our core business, and the need to restart this business and then grow our non-core business.  I am in logistics, we move product from place to place on trucks, servicing our customers is our core business.

It’s a Poker Thing

I was asked a very interesting question today.  On the surface it seems easy enough to answer, but I tend to over analyze things.  I was asked “Why do you like to play poker?”

I gave the standard answers, the competition, the fun, the people you meet, etc.  Ok they asked “Why do you really like poker?” They went on to say that “Poker is a game where people trick each other and take advantage of the weaker players to take their money.   Also, they stated that you play online, rarely do you go to a casino, how do you meet people.”

Poker Update

It’s been a while since I posted last, been busy with work and the kids, and quite frankly at 9:00PM, I do not feel like writing a post.  Here is an update for the past week or so.

I decided to try for the Iron Man again this month, in January I almost went broke playing cash games.  I have since rebuilt the bankroll and I am trying again.  I am only going to be able to play the bronze level this month, because I only try to get the 50 points a day, and I have to travel for work some this month, and to make silver I can only miss one day of points the rest of the month, this is going to be a challenge.

Need a Mid-Game Makeover

The variance of poker can be brutal.  Over the last 4 or 5 days I have lost a third of my bankroll on Full Tilt.

The downward trend started last weekend when I had cooler hand, I got my Kings full beaten by a straight flush.  I have had some winning sessions and have cashed in a few sit n go’s I have also bubbled 4 or 5 times.  The sickest thing is I have been crippled or knocked out at least 5 times when my over pair was cracked by an under pair, the worst was AA vs. TT in the bubble on a Stars tourney, 1600 players paid 450 out 461.

The Donkey Test:

I have been playing a lot more cash games lately and been have success.  In the past I usually donated my money when playing cash games.  There was a thread on cardclubs.net about Donkeytest so I took the quiz.  I scored 109.  When I looked at the questions for a second time I realized 1 or 2 errors for sure.  So I feel pretty good about the score.

So I scored well, but did not always do what I thought was correct.  How dumb is that?  So I started to follow my own advice and have had success.
