276 Days To Go
I have come to the stark realization that I am completely sick of online poker. My live poker experience is limited to small home games that I no longer partake in, but even with that small sample size, I can’t help but feel like live poker is, well, better.
California’s on my mind…
(and two brownie points to anyone who knows what song’s lyrics I’m quoting from there..)
So I’ve been here for a few days now, been playing the 10/20 NLHE games..it’s been going ok, and yet…I don’t know–I just “don’t get” the LA experience, I suppose. I think I’ve been spoiled by my frequent trips to Vegas and the Bellagio. Some things about LA that I will never understand (in no particular order):
There’s a Party Goin’ On Right Here
Some of you may have heard about this new Poker Players Social Network, a new MySpace/Facebook-type site for poker people. Wanted to invite both writers & readers of Poker Sift over there if you happen to be interested in that sort of thing. There’s all the bells & whistles over there you’d expect from such a site. You can make friends, create/join groups, forums, discussions, etc. You can upload vids & music & photos & other whatnot to distinguish yrself from the crowd. You can even carry on yet another blog over there, too, if you feel the urge.
Stop me if you heard this….
An old bull and a young bull come to the top of a hill; they look down and see a bunch of cows. The young bull turns to the old bull and says “Why don’t we run down there and (edit for content) a cow”. The Old bull turns to the young bull and says “Why don’t we walk down there and (edit for content) them all”.
It doesn’t matter what temperature the room is, it’s always room temperature.
For the last few weeks I have been deeply immersed in becoming a better poker player. Trying to understand what exactly my leaks are and discovering via video’s, books and on line forums what the best players in the world do in each situation. Probably what makes my game so exciting is the fact I do have the ability to “win” - win cash, win SNG’s and win Tournaments…..the potential is there.
A Gambling Joke
I hear a lot of jokes when I am at the tables. I read this one and thought it was pretty good so I thought I’d share it with you guys:
(excerpted from http://www.funnyhub.com/jokes/pages/professional-gambler.html)
The bartender said, “That’s fine, but we’re in the middle of the Depression, so I’ll need to see some money first.”
Meeting Ray Zee and Tommy Angelo
Sorry, I haven’t been posting. But when you are turning in a PhD thesis and moving to another city, there’s a lot happening in your life, that is not poker related. I have a backlog of ideas that I still want to publish in this blog, so I hope you don’t despair.
One thing I do want to write about is the meeting with some 2+2ers I had about 2 weeks ago (I know, I know, 2 weeks is a long time). Perhaps you have heard of Ray Zee (an article about him) and Tommy Angelo (his website), perhaps not. Stox (his website) was about to show up, but he went to the wrong pizza place, LOL.
Such a sick hand
So came across this hand yesterday while trying to see if Tom Dwan has a blog. For those who don’t know Dwan AKA Durr is a highly successful high stakes player and recently has been making a name for himself in the tournament scene.
This hand may be the sickest I have ever scene in terms of the stakes and the suckout.
Ethics Question?
I have wondered about rake back, would it be worth while getting rake back, is it considered bad if you added a 2nd account in order to get rake back. I am not talking about playing the 2 accounts at the same time. I am talking about either replacing the existing account or lets say play one account as a cash game account and another account as a tourney account, that type of thing. Is this wrong?
Poker Players & Poker Authors
“Do you prefer to be known as a great author or to be known as a great player?”
That was one of the questions Mike Johnson posed to David Sklansky on this week’s Two Plus Two Pokercast.
“Well, it depends on how you partition it out,” Sklansky replied. “I would rather be considered the best author and possibly the 30th best player than the other way around, assuming the money was equal. But I wouldn’t want to be considered a great author and merely a mediocre player.”
